Gries Named New Janney Technical Center Director
Effective this month, Associate Principal Matt Gries has stepped into the role of Janney Technical Center (JTC) Regional Director, responsible for support and coordination of our 70,000-square-foot testing and applied research laboratories and the more than sixty staff who work in them. Mr. Gries joined WJE in 2010 and has served as a unit manager in the JTC since 2020. A structural engineer, his project work focuses on structural assessment, analysis, and repair of buildings, bridges, towers, and utility structures.
Mr. Gries is preceded in his role by Principal Steve Zimmerman, who—after eight years in a leadership position in our laboratories—is now focused full-time on his responsibilities as Executive Director of Talent Advancement, leading our efforts to find, develop, and support extraordinary professionals throughout their careers at WJE. Mr. Zimmerman, also a structural engineer, joined WJE in 2001. His technical practice is focused on investigations of wood, steel, and concrete structures as well as laboratory analysis of material properties and corrosion resistance.
