Doug Stieve Elevated to AIA College of Fellows

Senior Principal Doug Stieve has been elevated to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) College of Fellows, one of the organization’s highest distinctions. Fewer than 3 percent of AIA members earn the FAIA designation, which recognizes architects who have made significant contributions to the profession and to society.

Since joining WJE in 1991, Doug, who is based in our New York office, has provided consulting services for more than ten thousand buildings and structures nationwide. A building envelope specialist, he focuses on the design, construction, and investigation of roofing and waterproofing systems and of masonry construction. He has led design and construction services for numerous multimillion-dollar repair and rehabilitation projects and serves as a trusted advisor to architects, contractors, and owners on new construction.

Doug’s portfolio includes work on some of the largest and most complex waterproofing projects in the New York metropolitan area, including Lincoln Center, the National September 11 Memorial and MuseumHudson Yards, and the Perelman Performing Arts Center. Over the course of his career, he has contributed to projects recognized by national, state, and local organizations, including the AIA, Engineering News-Record, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Most recently, Doug and his team received AIA’s 2024 Architecture Award and a 2024 Education Facility Design Award for their work designing the subgrade and podium deck waterproofing and roofing systems at the John A. Paulson Center at New York University.

The FAIA designation recognizes Doug’s longstanding leadership and impact on the built environment.
